Alpana Saha: You have specializations and exposure in diverse areas like science education, bioinformatics, microbiology and parasitology, how do you connect to them?

Deepika Bhaskar: Connecting diverse areas and applying the knowledge gained to further futuristic educational initiatives excites me. Communicating scientific knowledge has been my passion and touching diverse disciplines has matured my administrative understanding of the requirements of each, helping me contribute better.

I was originally trained in Microbiology with minor as Biochemistry. My Masters research focused on genetic and physiological studies on Schizosaccharomycespombe and for my doctoral research, I worked on Mycorrhiza and Cicer arietinum.  Bioinformatics, as a field, emerged much later and I was excited to learn it and experience the in silico scientific world. That led to my studies on potential molecular targets for malaria vaccine.

I have found it very fascinating to work in different domains. I always wanted to diversify and learn about different areas. My varied exposure has played a major part in my role as Deputy Dean Research at University of Delhi and helped in managing research and development in a large organisation catering to research in different domains, ranging from experimental to theoretical. It also helped me manage research projects related administrative issues of departments and colleges of the University of Delhi…read more on NOPR
